I am having the same issue. Render blocking is causing low speed reports. I am also running Mosterinsights plugin for Analytics.

However, I am not sure what the code means. Could you please kindly explain how to implement it? I have a child theme and can enter code into child theme’s functions.php. What exactly do I have to enter, which lines? I have no knowledge of coding at all.

Copy the code in this gist (except for the first line, i.e., line #1).

Then, paste the copied code into your child theme’s functions.php file.

Save your functions.php file. Purge your caches. Reload your site while not logged-in as an Administrator or Editor. Inspect your page’s source.

You’ll see the async attribute now show up like the screen capture in the gist (see below).

As documented in the code comments, the code in the gist adds that async attribute to the script tag for the gtag library. That means the browser will load Google’s gtag JavaScript library asynchronously (in parallel with other files) to reduce render blocking ??

@mlchaves is there any chance we’ll see this as an option in the MonsterInsights plugin settings? I have a lot of clients who are uninstalling MonsterInsights because of this issue. With everyone working towards Core Web Vitals, it would be great to see an easy checkbox solution for this!

It will become the default in the next release.

For those that have implemented the code snippet, they won’t need to do anything, it will keep working as expected

What’s the ETA on a fix?

However, what about the js/frontend-gtag.min.js 9.3 KiB script? This is still render-blocking. BTW, I’m not logged in and viewing as an Incognito session.
