• Good day.

I’m creating a new FSE theme. I have header, footer etc. For some reason I need to rename my theme’s folder name. From mytheme to yourtheme, for example. It is the only change I’ve done – renaming the folder name.

But when I activate the theme from new folder, I see empty header and footer. The Home page seems to be OK.

Is there way to keep the currenc header and footer after theme folder change?

    Thank you in advance,
    Serge.

First i recommended not change active theme folder name. You need to activate any wordpress default theme before making such changes. Then you can just rename theme folder name and you need to update Theme name in style.css file of your theme. And then activate new theme . Also clear your cache if you have caching enabled.

You can refer to below article. https://www.templatemonster.com/help/wordpress-how-to-rename-themexxxxx.html

    Thank you, @weboccults .

But I’m talking about another problem. Changing the theme folder name breaks current header, footer and page templates. You can try it yourself with twentytwentytwo theme:

    1. Activate the theme.
    2. Go to Appearence – Themes. Click Customize on the twentytwentytwo theme
    3. Change the Header template, for example, add a paragraph with text. Save.
    4. Set another active theme.
    5. Change twentytwentytwo folder to twentytwentytwo1
    6. Activate twentytwentytwo theme again and visit the site.

You will see – all your changes in the Header do not exist.

    @serge-gusev

If you are making theme folder changes for wordpress core theme like twenty twenty two.
You should ask to theme support for it. Sometimes theme option will goes when you deactivate theme also.

If it is custom theme ask developer for that. and If wordpress theme you can ask related support forum because twenty twenty two theme changes many things compare to other themes.

    Hope this will help you!
