• I have recently started a www.ads-software.com blog (www.thepearlstitch.com) and have installed both the JetPack and the “Follow Button for JetPack”; I realize that people who view my blog can subscribe to it by clicking the “Follow” button on the bottom of my home screen and entering their email address, etc., but I have questions with regards to following from that point:

    1) Is there a way for me to follow other blogs (www.ads-software.com/ .com/ non-WordPress blogs) so that my own link shows, or am I just going to be able to enter my email address? In other words, I want to be able to connect and follow other blogs the way I was able to with my WordPress.com free blog account (since deactivated). If this isn’t possible, am I correct in thinking that I will only be able to enter my email address and subscribe to other blogs to follow them? Is there any newsfeed or “reader” the way there is in WordPress.com for www.ads-software.com users so that I can see a collective feed of new posts from blogs I follow/ subscribe to?

    2) If it’s not possible for me to follow blogs the way I could with the WordPress.com account, then what is the best way to share your blog aside from the obvious (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)? Are there any pages that show “Featured” blogs (besides the WordPress “Showcase”) that I can submit my blog to for a little added traffic?

3)Can I show how many people are following my blog on my sidebar with the current “Follow Button for JetPack” plug-in that I have?

THANK YOU!!! I am clearly very green/ confused, so any feedback is incredibly appreciated.

  • 1. wordpress.com is actually a network of sites, so it’s relatively simple to follow other sites in the network. However, a self-hosted WordPress site has no other direct connection with any other WordPress sites, so you can’t follow sites in the same way that you used to. all you can do is subscribe to them as you have described.

    2. There’s nothing apart from the routes you’ve already mentioned (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

    3. Not really. Not everyone will use the Jetpack subscription to follow your site. some many just subscribe to (ie read) your site’s RSS feed. so there’s no way to estimate the true number of people who are following your site.
