    Hi guys
For some reason all meta descriptions have dissappeared from all posts on the site!
Ive used Yoast to set the ‘Meta description Template’ to:

    %%title%% from %%sitedesc%%

So now I would like to be able to update all existing posts creating a meta description using those values. Is this possible with Yoast?

Any new posts have a description generated in the above format, but how to update the old posts?

    Thanks guys ??

  • Hi Barry,

Thanks for the email! The old posts should output that new meta description. We would like some more information.

    • Can you confirm you using the most recent Yoast SEO 5.3.2?
    • Can you provide a link to where the issue is happening?
    • Can you confirm you entered the new template description in the right areas? For example, if you go to SEO-Titles and Metas-Post types has the new template been applied to all the post types listed? See image: https://pasteboard.co/GHiXfZF.png

    Let us know.

Hi and thanks for the reply!

The fields you mentioned are filled in like this:

    Posts (post)

    Hi,

Thanks for the response. We do see that the meta description is blank on: https://www.unicominsurance.com/insurance-news/tachograph-rules/. See image: https://pasteboard.co/GHjjf8e.png

This sounds like a plugin or theme conflict. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:

    1. Make sure the issue doesn’t persist when Yoast SEO is disabled.
    2. Check for conflicts.
    3. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.

If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.

If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.
