• I am asked to help repair someone’s website whose designer has quit and nobody knows how it works. I am rather new to WP. There is a search function installed on https://www.joodsebegraafplaatsassen.nl, but it doesn’t work properly. So I installed Relevanssie to try to replace that.
So far, I have built the index, which says: 859 documents, 39147 terms, and 3366 Highest post ID indexed. So it is indexed.
At the front-end still the current ‘alphabetical Index’, and a ‘search field for persons’ are shown (as ‘zwartblok’ when I look with Firebug) of the improperly working search function. As far as I can see the WP ‘search widget’ is not activated.
    1. Should there show up a new search field after installing Relevanssie, since I don’t see where to input my search terms?
    2. Should I activate the standard ‘WP search’ widget, which might be needed for Relevanssie or has Relevanssie its own search function?
    3. Should I remove that current search function (and where should I do that, maybe adjust ‘search.php’?) or should Relevanssie use that function?
I am grateful for any help, Henk

    Search seems to work: https://joodsebegraafplaatsassen.nl/?s=nathans

The name search on the front page is a default WP search widget.

Thanks Mikko for your very quick reaction.
This is, however, the real website, in which I didn’t dare to experiment. I installed Relevanssie in a test site at another server, but couldn’t give you access to that one. Because of that my host now made access possible to that test site through a subdomain: https://test.joodsebegraafplaatsassen.nl
If you want access to the backend: username: henk, password: dhJdkei*&992@
Anyway, you concluded already that a default WP search widget is active.

After that conclusion still my questions 1 and 3 remain: How can I make a search field for Relevanssie visible to type my search strings in?
I suppose that Relevanssie can search for specific names or other terms, which then will lead not only to the first letter of a surname in only the sort ‘Families’.

I expect the scope of the Relevanssie search to be far broader than the current search facilities in the ‘alphabetical Index’ and the ‘search for persons.
Have I to delete those current search fields using the default WP search widget in order te make room for the Relevanssi search field to emerge?
Or do I have to make code adjustments in ‘search.php’ or else?
I hope my problem is now more clear.

    Regards, Henk

I took a look at the search results template, and it’s doing specific things that are very much not compatible with Relevanssi.

If you want a Relevanssi search, get rid of the specific code and just use a basic search results template with the usual WordPress post loop. The search form you have is fine.

You probably don’t want to keep that password available on a public forum like this, by the way.
