How to get rid of the " " and "-"?

Both questions have the same answer: use CSS.

You have to override the rule on the 16th: https://plugins.trac.www.ads-software.com/browser/thumbs-rating/trunk/css/style.css

try something like

content: '';

For the vote down, use display:none.

Thanks, but “content: ”;” does only remove the “Vote up”, not the “+”.

You just need to edit it out of wp-content/plugins/thumbs-rating/thumbs-rating.php, lines 115 and 116 for me. Search for data-text. Removing all of line 116 will remove the negative vote button.

Yep, that’s one way to do it. But you’ll not be able to upgrade the plugin in the future ??

Why don’t you use CSS:content for setting the “+” and “-“? So all would be fine.

Ah didn’t think about updating. If an update is applied with mismatched code is the previous stuff just overwritten or is there a major error?

Well it depends. If I’m not mistaken WordPress does delta updates for core, which means only changed files. I’m not sure it does the same thing for plugins, I would think not.

So, it will overwrite the whole plugin losing your customization.

You could also clone the plugin folder and rename it or change the version.
