How to get rid of the big space that Google keeps throwing ads into

That seems to have wiped all ads from the main page, and puts them behind content on the individual posts, so they show up a bit “ghosty”.

Well, I have tried about a dozen snippets of custom CSS, but this is apparently beyond anyone on here.
