How to get rid of WordPress auto p and br

I have inserted HTML + javascript into the Question field (using <canvas> element), but WordPress inserts <p> tags around my scripts/code making them disabled…
I have tried inerting “remove_filter(‘the_content’, ‘wpautop’);” into my themes functions.php file, and installing killit and remove autop plugins, but no help…
Hope you can help. I am using the free “Responsive” theme from https://www.ads-software.com/themes/responsive
