  • It can only search the text that is in the post. Try giving the images alt tags, titles, names, or captions.

Thanks for your suggestion, but the images are tagged and categorized and I linked the categories.

The headline- or subject line- comes up, but no image. All the categories and tags are listed on th epost also.

You probably have search.php in your theme set to show the_excerpt and you haven’t entered anything into the Excerpt dialog box on the edit post screen. If you leave that box empty, it will not show images as part of the excerpt. It will show the first 55 words of the post’s content. If there is no content other than the image, it will show nothing.

What would I enter in the excerpt? a common tag or category? Or take out the search php?

If you enter an image tag (e.g. <img src="whatever/your/image/path/is/image.jpg"> into the Excerpt dialog box on the edit post screen, then the image will show in the search results. The easiest way to get the correct code to enter into the dialog box is to switch the editor into HTML mode and copy & paste the image tag into the Excerpt dialog box.

Awesome!!!! going to work on it right now!!!
    Thanks so much!

Also, what theme are you using? I think Atahualpa, for instance, has a configurable list of HTML tags that it strips out of the search results, and by default, it does strip img tags.

Twenty eleven on my blog and Memoir 2.7 on my website

Is there a general format for that?

Atahualpa has a “Don’t strip these tags” option in the excerpts configuration.

@catherinewhit you should not have to worry about that. Images are stripped from excerpts in all themes unless you specify an image tag in the Excerpt dialog box like I mentioned.

I am methodically adding the specfic HTML tags to all specific excerpt boxes. It iwll take a while. but it works ??

Glad to hear it works. Please mark the thread resolved so others who have the same question may benefit.

It worked on my blog twenty eleven, but not on my website- memoir 2.7 theme
