I changed my front page to static, but would like to retain a sidebar. How can I get one? (As mine is now gone after the switch)

    Thank you

  • The “Static” page you chose by default should be using the default page template, page.php, in your theme directory. If it does not include a sidebar, you must add the code yourself to the PHP file. Ultimately, your home page should be a page style that’s entirely different from the default page file.

Just create a new custom page template in your theme directory, go into the page you selected as your “static” front page, and set the template to your new template. I think I explained that sufficiently lol.

Of course you may or may not need to add additional HTML to make it look proper, but then again, I don’t know your them ??

    Happy coding (^.-)

if you are using Twenty Eleven, try and use the ‘Sidebar Template’ for the static front page:

dashboard – pages – edit page – page attributes – templates

Thanks for the info. Saved my ass a lot of grief.
