How to get steady size images in posts on my website(desktop)

How the featured image is displayed is up to your theme. You may be able to override the chose size with some CSS, but….

Sorry, I do not know that theme. When I build a theme that uses a featured image, I tell my clients “If you want it to look good, use xxx by xxx as the size for featured images.” That saves a lot of grief.

I see you’re using a child theme, so you could add a new image size and cropping parameter to be used for the featured image, then modify the code to use that size.

It’s not just “here’s some lines to paste”. It involves a somewhat significant bit of programming and testing. If you can’t figure that out from the codex links, you should engage a programmer to make the changes for you or use the “upload in the right size” method.
