    Hi,

We installed Traffic plugin on our WordPress (WP) multisite installation. We are using WP 5.4.1 and Php 7.3.18. Our WP website has more than 2000 multisites. How can we see traffic coming from each one of them to our core site.

We could not find any configuration parameter to configure for this. How will Traffic plugin know about our 2000 websites? Will it recognize them automatically or do we have to specify these websites somewhere.

    Regards
    Amal

    Hello @amsharma !
You don’t have to specify sites (and you can’t). It is automatically added in analytics source or target as soon as the first hit (get/post/head/options) is catched. This mode is the standard operational mode of Traffic for inbound and outbound.
Your case is very specific: subsites which access APIs on main site. If all is done correctly in subsites (ie. subsites with own domains, right network and dns config, etc.), you will see a growing list of inbound sites (ordered by calls).

    Hi Pierre,

    A few points:
    – We don’t use API per se, we have used mu-plugin (by WordPress) to install each domain. This plugin helps us to support multiple sites.

    – The most important info I want to share with you is that after we installed Traffic plugin all our subsites except for primary stopped working. You must help us investigate this. We cannot have any of the sites down. So we have disabled it right now. Kindly suggest a solution. We can provide you credentials etc.

    – We have used DNS “A” records to configure the subsites to point to our web server IP. Does that suit your plugin?

    – We didn’t see any of our subsites even after a few hours on Traffic plugin although they were showing traffic on Google Analytics.

    – FYI, our current focus is on Inbound traffic. There is nothing we found which will tell us how much traffic is coming on each of our subsites. Will Traffic help us find this?

    Regards
    Amal

    Hi Amal,

If I understand well (points 1 and 3), you’ve set your subsites using the standard WP way. So to answer the question in point 5, the answer is definitely yes.
The point 4 MAY be normal: if you’ve got only browser and bots traffic (without any API calls), but it’s a really rare condition…
To be honest, I prefer to focus first on your point 2. May I suggest you get in touch with me by mail at [my_first_name]@lannoy.fr and give me the url of your main site and an url of a subsite?

    Thanks.

I have sent you a mail Pierre. It took some time to assimilate everything as we are in the middle of some major changes.
