• this is such a silly request but i couldn’t figure it out.

i would like to get a notification BEFORE wordpress updates its version. how do i do this?

we have been caught recently with the updates knocking out our websites because our themes/plugins needed to be updated. if we knew when update was happening we could be proactive instead of reactive.

thanks in advance for your help.

  • Turn off automated updates. There are plugins that do this or you can make modifications to your wp-config.php file.

You will then receive notifications in your dashboard allowing you decide when to upgrade.

If you need to know even sooner, WordPress announces release candidates well before the actual public release.

thanks for the advice. unfortunately, that is not an option for me. i use godaddy’s managed wordpress hosting platform and they automatically update the sites.

i am looking to receive a notification via email when wordpress will be updating the version. even if i could just get an email when they post something new to the releases category of the blog.

    That’s an unfortunate constraint.

There’s a page that lists releases. Which you monitor for changes or access as an RSS feed.

You’ll see that major releases are preceded by a release candidate. However, smaller releases have no warning. They’re also far less likely to break anything.

There might be a more official process, but I’m not aware of it so hopefully someone else will jump if they know of something.

yes, that is exactly what i am trying to do is get a notification anytime that page adds something. how do i setup a RSS feed for this specific page that you mention- https://www.ads-software.com/news/category/releases/

The second link in my previous response points to the RSS feed of the URL.

i saw that but it is a page of code?

It’s in the plain, unformatted feed format. Drop it into whatever reader you use and it should work fine.

i dont use a reader. i suppose i could figure out how to get a reader and add this feed but wouldnt that be the same as just checking the blog page regularly?

i am looking for a way to receive an email everytime there is an update. i am guessing this is impossible?

You can set up a monitor for a page using a site like changedetection.com. It’ll check for updates once a day and email you when a change has been discovered. In this case monitor the HTML page, not the RSS feed.
