How to get WordPress Editor to NOT convert carriage returns to line breaks

    Does anyone know if it’s possible to make the WordPress post/page editor NOT render carriage returns as line breaks?

    In HTML editors, carriage returns are used to write clean code. Break tags are used for line breaks. This is how I want my WordPress editor to behave.

    ANY help on the subject is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
