• Hi,

My last request got ignored so I will simply make a new one and hope to get this solved this time.

I would like to have H1 tags on my pages but this seems to be very hard to get? I cannot understand why? As it is now I have H1 on all my blog posts. So no troubles there. But when it comes to my pages they are missing the H1 tag. It’s not a lot of pages but my about me page, contact, categories, and disclosure. So maybe it doesn’t matter a alto but I would still like to get the H1 tag on at least my about me page.

    How can I get this?

And FYI, in my customizer the page title option is set to “P”. I do not know what P stands for but that is the setting that you (ocean wp support) told me to make about a year ago, in order to get my blog posts to appear without the word BLOG.

So with this information, I hope you can help me!

    Best regards
    Ann

  • Hello,

Your last topic wasn’t ignored and I, including some other OceanWP users, have explained everything in detail, so please read the old post and all replies thoroughly again.
If the Post Title is set to paragraph (p), it’s because you or someone else managing your website has made those changes, because our default Page Title tag is H1.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask

Yes, and I totally understand this. But as soon as I explain why it is set to p and ask how I can solve it. I get no further replies. So I ask this one more time.

The page title is set to p since your support (ocean WP support) told me to do so about a year ago. And the reason for that was that I asked for having the word “BLOG” removed from my blog posts.

Now I understand this messes up the H1 tags on my pages. And wonder how to solve this. I still do not want the word “BLOG” to appear on my blog posts.

My blog posts are having H1 tags so all is good that. And I just cannot understand how to get it to the pages too.

    So again, please help!

    Best regards

And now it happens again. I ask this particular question and get ignored once again ?? I truly hope it is just because you have a lot on your table. But I ask again, please help me solve this!

    Hello @ayoungerskin,

You were told to set your Page Title as a paragraph tag (p), because you have complained about double H1 tags on blog posts. You could have also set the Blog title to H2, without any issues.

OceanWP provides you with all sorts of combinations so that you can achieve great SEO results, but it’s really up to you how you will be using those and what kind of combination will suit your needs best.

    As my colleague already suggested:
    1. If you’re using Gutenberg to crate pages, just add an H1 Heading block containing your page title;
    2. If you’re using Elementor, add a Heading widget and set to H1.

    That’s the entire procedure.

Hope this helps. Best of luck with your website

    Hi,

I think you are confusing me with someone else ?? I have never complained about double H1 tags o my blog post. I just wanted to have the text “BLOG” removed so therefore your support team (one year ago) told me to set the page title as a p. My blog posts are just showing one H1 and that is the same as the headline (I hope). If that is not the best way to solve this then please let me know! Is there another way to remove the word “BLOG” from my blog posts?

Now my recent issue was when I discovered my pages were all without an H1 tag. And that is when this circus started. I am glad you gave me these two alternatives. And yes I saw them before. And I then followed up with a question about how exactly to add the H1 tag in Gutenberg, because there is no such alternative for me in WordPress. I never got an answer, just a lot of confusion from a support guy who did not even speak English.

So I am asking again. How can I get the H1 tag in WordPress? I am on the page edit. I click on the headline. But nowhere can I find an option to add an H1 tag.

    Best regards

Getting really frustrated with all this. So now I tried to just change back the page title to H1 in customizer. And it seems to work fine, for some reason the word BLOG is not there anymore! Have you removed the word BLOG from this theme maybe? Since it was over a year ago I got the instructions to change page title to p?

Please let me know if I am all set now. Do all my pages and blog posts now have a H1 tag? And is the header of my blog posts the same as the page title for those URLs?

    Best regards
    Ann

    Hello @ayoungerskin,

I can assure you, I did not confuse you with someone else, but that’s unimportant now.

That “support guy who created a lot of confusion and doesn’t even speak English” is one of the most knowledgeable people I know, and does speak English well enough because he has helped thousands of OceanWP users over the years. That “support guy” has also created a custom header for you and guided you through basic WordPress which is not even remotely within our scope, just like this H1 “issue”. Therefore, I will kindly ask you to refrain from any further discrimination towards my colleagues: https://www.ads-software.com/support/guidelines/#user-expectations

Also, we have not removed the Blog option for single posts. For posts, you have two options when it comes to the Page Title – either to display the word BLOG or to display the posts’ actual title. These settings can be found via Appearance > Customize > Blog > Single Post, Header Page Title dropdown option.

Now, unlike regular pages, for blog posts we offer an automated option to also display an additional post title which you can choose whether or not it will be displayed, along with other elements such as the featured image, post meta data, etc.

For pages, just add a Heading block, assign an H1 tag to it, and type in your page title. Not exactly sure what you mean when you say you don’t have this option, because this is the default Gutenberg editor, and is unrelated to OceanWP?

If you which to keep the Page Title (Customize > General Options > Page Title) to H1, make sure you assign an H2 tag for your single blog posts (Customize > Blog > Single Post).

If you’re unfamiliar with Gutenberg, I suggest going through a couple of tutorials, starting with this one: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-use-the-new-wordpress-block-editor/

Best of luck with your website.

PS. English is also not my first language, but I hope the answer is clear enough

    (@ayoungerskin)

Thank you so much Marco! You have given me the clearest answer so far and I really appreciate that! That is exactly what I was looking for. Instead, there has been a major loop with wasting time.

About your colleague, I am sure he very knowledgeable and competent. No hard feelings. But obviously, there were misunderstandings (from both ends) and he ended up just ignoring me. I will not be upset by that. But I cannot just accept claims that aren’t true. Such as that I was complaining about double H1 when I wasn’t. But during this “circus” I was told to add an H1 tag to my header and so I did. And then I was told I now had double H1 and had to remove it. So I did. All of that was unnecessary, but I don’t need to go into detail about that because I do not want to complain and waist more time. I just want to be helped!

And no he did not do any custom header for me. I did that myself, over a year ago. So again, there must be confusion between me and someone else? Doesn’t matter, but it’s not true. The header was made by me.

And the support I originally got from you was over a year ago too regarding the blog titles. And that was via email and not this ticket thread. That guy told me to make page title as p. Maybe you didn’t have the option to chose a blog title as page title at that moment? Since it was ?ver a year ago? Or maybe he did not know.

Anyway. I have now set Page title to H1. Blog title to be page title. And blog title to be H1. Am I all set? Or are you saying I now have two H1? I did not quite understand that part. I cannot see why I have two H1 on my blog posts :-/ Please let me know if I am on the right or wrong path.

    Best regards

    (@ayoungerskin)

    Hi again,
Just wanted to let you know that I did as you said and switched H1 to H2 in customizer under blog title. Since I noticed I got duplicate H1 otherwise.

But I would really not like to have a H2 that is exactly a copy of the H1 either. Since I read that is bad for SEO. So went back to have blog title as H1 and page title as p. Then I at least know my blog posts are safe.

So back to the other option. To add a H1 manually on my pages in Gutenberg. I followed your link but there was no instructions on how to add a tag to the title itself. It is not like the other blocks where I can easily change to whatever I want (I write all my posts in gutenburg so I am familiar with how it works). But the title block is different. I cannot change anything in the title block :-/ If you have any suggestions where to find information about that please let me know.

By default, if you use the title bar on your site, it is the one that contains the H1 tag, being the highest in the code, it is ideally placed.
In articles only the title above the content is an H2, the hierarchy is good as well.
You can ask to display the title of the article in the title bar, in this case it will be duplicated (H1 + H2), nothing serious except that it is a little repetitive.
You can hide the title above the content with the Blog -> Single Post settings.
