• Hello, I have two existing live websites with their own domains: One I created fairly recently with WP and the other I wrote in HTML a decade ago. I want to redo my old website in WP so am looking to have two separate websites [abc].co.uk & [xyz].co.uk.

Everything I’ve found talks about multisites, so I went through that process but when I came to add the old domain [abc].co.uk, the Site Address (URL)?field shows the domain to be [xyz].co.uk. I’m feeling that multisites isn’t what I need, but I can’t find anything else.

How can I run two separate sites (hosted on cPanel and running Softaculous if that matters)? These are not really commercial sites, so a fee-paying solution isn’t viable, but other than that, I don’t really mind how I get there – ie multisite or another way although less complication is good! Many thanks

  • The way how you are explaining it, it’s almost like two different domains. I use One.com as a host and in their packages, you can have a certain number of websites while only paying for the domain name.

You could also look into a subsite…

    example.com & child.example.com

But, multisite is more for multiple WP websites being managed by one main site. But, I don’t know a lot about multisites but found this great guide that might give you a bit more insight: https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2020/01/complete-guide-wordpress-multisite/

Pieterjan Thanks. It is two separate domains. My host is Krystal (a UK host) and our package allows a number of websites (which, as you say, just leaves the domain to be paid for). Can I just install another instance of WP? I saw an “install” button somewhere but haven’t found it again (our existing sites were transferred over, so I didn’t have to install anything myself)

Yes, I do something extremely similar for my art school.

I have https://lucasgent.be for the main secundary school but at the end of the year, we partner up with another school to have an expo and for that we have another website:

    https://sintlucasexpo.be

Both running WordPress and installed via the host.

And you can always ask your host for help on installing WP if you aren’t up to installing it yourself.
