how to hide posts listed under years & split categories?

Hi,
I want to archive posts by year and have the year linking to a page of posts from that year. I do not want a list of posts under the year. I’m using this as a shortcode in a widget in the sidebar.https://www.aurigene2.com/drug-development-media/press-releases/
can I have a shortcode that would call categories by year on one page and a different category by year on another page? My client is using posts for News and for Events.
