• This might be a silly qestion but I feel like this is the only thing I do not know how to do and I kinda need it urgently.

On the import page it asks you what platform you’re importing from, but there is no option for wordpress.

How do I import posts from a wordpress blog, to another wordpress blog?

    Any information will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • if you just need the posts, you’re probably better off just using something like phpMyadmin, dump the data only from the old db, then import to the new db. I’m not sure if there’s a plugin to handle the import from wp to wp, the way there is for the other platforms.

I’ve been looking for the same thing for a while. Please post here if you find some suggestions.

Have you considered using the database backup plugin to download the database and then restoring it on your new site? Might work.

Failing that, use the RSS importer stuff.

Otto42, that’s exactly what I’m doing right now… and PRAYING it will work. lol..

At the moment there isn’t an automatic importer like there is for MT-WP or Blogger-WP, so at the moment your best bet is just to do a manual database move.

However, Matt Mullenweg recently coded a WP-WP importer/exporter script which will hopefully get some more work done on it so that it can be included into the next release.

I tried to import posts from one WP install to another using the backup plugin, which seemed to work well – the old posts are on the new site, but I can’t get to the admin section. It keeps redirecting to the old site. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? Did this happen to anyone else or am I just lucky?

Okay, I figured it out – I had to go into the database and change the URL in the options table to reflect the new URL.
