    I need to import an additional CPT to a site, but I’ve discovered that if I import a CPT, it overwrites the existing CPT!! {frustrating!}

    As such, it seems that I need to import both the original CPT as well as the new CPT but I can’t find any information on how to do this.

    I did try adding the two CPT details into one import, but that didn’t work.

    Surely this must be easy enough? How do I do this please?

    Thanks

    Hi @heyblondie

    Because I want to make sure, are you talking about importing posts from the post type? or do you mean your CPTUI settings via our Tools menu? Asking because I have had people interchange “custom post type” between the settings etc, and the post content.

    That said, on the assumption you mean CPTUI settings, the import process is an “only settings from the current import” setup. It overwrites the saved CPTUI option outright, without merge. It sounds like you’re potentially trying to import CPTUI post type settings from separate installs?

    The easiest way to get everything in one go, would be to register all of the intended post types in one install, JUST for the sake of getting them all in one settings blob. Then the actual post type content can imported from the individual sites, as posts/meta/terms/etc are not explicitly tied to the CPTUI site.

    Alternatively and more “by hand”, since our import blobs are just JSON encoded data, those could be pieced together correctly, but that’s not quite as straightforward. However, I’m willing to help with that if needed, I’d just need the to-be-imported blobs.

    Hey @heyblondie did you ever get this figured out?
