How To Insert Ad Rotator Into Ad Spots

Anybody know how to insert ad groups from the ad rotator plugin into a theme with pre-designated ad spots?

I’ve tried adding the short code and adding the html code, both of which result in just seeing the actual code on the site where the ad should be.

Do I need to add the html into the theme’s code? If so, how do I do that?
