How to insert custom slide show into my post

Hi,
I created a custom slide show titled The Island. I would like to run these pictures the middle in my post. I published but nowhere to bee seen on any pages.
Use this shortcode to display the slider:
[mainslider]
what the author is suggesting is not working either. Nor, I find any instructions how to this or where is going to be publish after I hit the publish button.
If I replace the above short code to [The Island] the slide won’t run. Now I am an author to the site not and administrator. If the admin must be setting the custom slide show that would defeat the purpose of an author.
It would make some sense to me if I can install this custom slide show in the same manner as I do with picture from my media.
Please help if you know the answer… thanks…
