  • These instructions are not making sense. The folder it comes in is called “buddypress-widget-theme” and there is no template added when I activate this theme… Please clarify?

Never mind I changed the directory name back (i.e. not following the instruction above on that point) and deactivated and reactivated the theme and then I got the template and it seems to work now.

modemlooper, I’ve followed these instructions (with one exception – see below) and I really like the 3 column theme. However –
    – I couldn’t follow your instructions to the word because I didn’t have an option to choose BuddyPress Widget Thems as the page template (which is probably why I am getting some 404 when I try to select menu options for Groups, Forum, Activities.

    Can you help?

    Thanks

    Will

    wpmu 2.9.2 and buddypress 1.2.3

-After install and activate, do the following.

    – Create a New Page and set the following while creating page
    Parent = Main Page(no parent)
    Template = Thin Wide Thin

    – Go and add the widget in Appearance >> Widget

    – Change the main page setting Settings >> Reading
Front Page = (name of the page you’ve created above)

    – go to main page and enjoy the changes!

Thanks. This worked but now i have a question… ??
I use a static page as home, and pointed my posts to another static page called “SiteBlog”.. Both pages work, My home is the static page and if i click on “SiteBlog”, then i see my blog..

However, If i go to “blogs” and click onto my main sites blog (the one that used to be at “home”), it will still go to the home directory (instead of the “SiteBlog” page?

    Did i miss a step?
    Thanks for any help ??

I’ve been trying with two different child themes, the 3 column theme and the widget theme. I can’t get either of them to work satisfactorily. The 3 column theme completely falls apart, apart from the home page, if you use IE (and lots of people do, unfortunately) so I dropped that. I tried the widget theme, but that leaves me with 2 home pages, my original home page (which I can’t see how to hide), which acts like the default theme, and the new thin wide thin home page, which has all the widgets I put on it but no content, no matter that I set it as the main page and also the blog page. I am using WP3 RC2 and , BuddyPress Default 1.2.4.1 / BuddyPress Widget Theme 1.2.1 / BP Columns 1.2.

I have followed all the above. Can anyone give me some further advice on this?

    modemlooper

How do I change the link color for the BP Columns 1.2 theme? I need a darker color of blue.

Looks like the modemlooper left da house!

Sorry, just logged in after a while. I think I need to update this because of 3.0.

@pubdirltd make sure in under reading you have chosen a static front page.

You need to create a page then chose a page template and then tell WP to use that page as the static front page.

Hi, I run https://www.goseetalk.com. I just installed the theme “Piano-Black 2.2” and when I go to my page, it doesn’t have any of the graphics that the template is showing. (take a look at the site to see what I mean)

Am I missing something essential or obvious? Any help would be valued!

@modemlooper… Thanks for that. I had checked that but something else must have been snagging one or other hooks because now its working fine. That just leaves me with two questions. How/where do I get rid of the 1px gray vertical line top to bottom of the standard page sidebar? Is that BuddyPress default theme territory? And secondly, how/where do I adjust the column widths in the default page(s)? When I have done those two things, I think Virtual Crowds is ready to take its place amongst the some of spiffiest of the spiffymost on the web, thanks to you.

    Hey Terence.

I’m new to WordPress. I created a site a while back using Joomla but I’m considering switching to WordPress. I’ve tried dabbling with a local install of Wordress but just can’t figure out how to get those ‘MENU TABS’ at the top working ??

I’ve looked at your site and see you managed it, can you give me any hints of help on how you did it?

    Much appreciated

    Mr. ModemLooper,
My site had a home page which I deleted and then installed your widgeted BuddyPress. After which I followed your instructions above.

In my case I get four widgetized areas, Columns 1-3 and Side bar.

I think recreated my HomePage with thin-wide-thin

Went to Settings-Reading and selected a static page Home for my blog as well as my blog page

Result is three “widget” areas across the front of my home page, two asking me to to add widgets and no home page content.

I don’t have it to show because it was dysfunctional and I “regressed” it back to the base WP theme.

Any ideas what is going on?

To get the site up and maybe clear up a misunderstanding.
Does the content now become a “Text” widget on the Home page?
