how to install additional language files?

  • I’m searching for a way to install an additional language (fr_FR), next to my default language.

    However the codex is a bit confusing as it only seems to handle 1 language for installation (not add-ons). If I then go to the “WordPress Localization Repository”: https://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-i18n/ as advised, I don’t know what to do with the files or where to place it.

    I thought I just needed fr_FR.mo and fr_FR.po to place in wp-content/languages, but find it hard getting there… (thought I only needed to download a zip file and place it in the map, like plugins are handled).

    reason: to have my admin panel in different languages (use of plugin: Native dashboard).
