How to install new Astra theme without losing anything else

  • Hi everyone!

    Here’s the scenario:
    Client has a website with a theme purchased from Envato. I use Astra themes. We want to install an Astra theme without loosing anything on the site like orders, customer details, plugins, etc.
    In other words, only bring in the new theme. Ideally I want to build the theme on something like a staging site and once complete transfer it to the client’s site so downtime is limited.
    This would however require me to use a plugin like WP All Import but that would override everything on the client’s site?

    Any ideas?

  • Hi @webify24,

    Switching the theme from one to another will never delete your existing content. That’s not how WordPress works. However, broken site layout when changing a theme sometimes is expected. That’s why doing all of those things on a staging site is always the best approach.

    As for cloning the site from a live to a staging site, or vice-versa, you might want to refer to this article.
