    Every week I get a Wordfence activity report for each of my sites. I’m not really sure what I should be doing with this, as most of the information seems to be stuff that Wordfence is handling and there’s nothing else for me to do? Particularly:

    IPs blocked;
    Countries blocked;
    Blocked attacks.

    Modified files sort of makes sense, although I don’t recognize any of the file names, so I don’t really know if they’re legit or not.

    I just want to make sure I’m not ignoring important information.

    Hi @jgold723, thanks for your query.

    Generally, as you say, the “Wordfence Activity for…” email is a summary for your reference of what Wordfence has been doing for you – which under most circumstances will not prompt further action.

    IPs and countries blocked could show interesting trends or specific problematic locations that you wish to escalate to a more permanent ban using .htaccess, for example.

    With “Modified files”, Wordfence is able to verify whether a plugin or theme has been compromised, such as having additional unwanted code inserted by an attacker, by checking against the official www.ads-software.com repository. If the content on your site tallies with the approved code within the repository, Wordfence knows no tampering has taken place. Naturally, you may still be interested to see which plugins/themes have recently modified.

    Unless you have auto-update enabled for all plugins, themes and WordPress itself, the “Updates Needed” section of the email could prompt you to keep up-to-date. We always recommended keeping up with this to maintain the most secure version of your website.

    Not everybody wishes to receive these emails at the same intervals, or at all. The Activity Report Options are located under Dashboard > Global Options where you can either change the summary email to be sent daily, weekly, monthly or not at all by unchecking the box and clicking SAVE.

    Let me know if you’d like any further information.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
