• My site is a kind of informational site about nature. Things like, insects, flowers, plants, animals, ETC. I want to invite people to contribute to individual pages they are viewing.

For example. Say a person is looking at a page about an insect. Say they know some interesting facts about that insect that I have not covered. I want a button that says something to the effect, “Want to contribute to the information on this page?” Click Here.

Now I could just create a generic form and post a link for them to contribute to that page, but I was wondering if there might be plugging that I could use that would be easier to use and automatically add the page information along with the viewer’s suggestion.

Just looking for some creative ideas on how to do this. TIA

  • Turn on comments with a call for contributions. Set the options for comments to be moderated, and then approve only the contributions.

I do have comments on, but it shows up at the bottom of the page, and it says “Leave a Reply”. I can find no way to change “Leave a Reply” to anything else.

You can use a plugin that modifies the comment interface, or make a child theme to change a few parameters to the comment section.

Okay. The option to enable comments is no available on POST. It is available only on Pages.

Take this post for example. I cannot find a way to enable comments on this post.

But I can enable comments on this page:

Enabling comments is the same on both Pages and Posts.

Edit the Post. In the block editor, in the right hand sidebar, under the Document section, scroll down until you find the Discussion section. Enabling comments for a post is a checkbox setting there.

The comment settings are core WordPress settings, and apply to all post types with comment support. But the theme or plugins could be affecting them.
When you go to the admin Settings > Discussion page, the first 3 options are for the defaults when creating a new post/page. Any changes there will only affect posts created after the change. But all posts/pages have individual settings that are found in the editor (or Quick Edit in the list). The other options on Discussion Settings page could be affecting your comments, if you have it set to close comments after a certain time period.

@otto42 Figured it out. I had “Discussions” unchecked under “Screen Options”, so it was not showing up. Thanks

    @joyously Thanks.

Now I am trying to change the “Leave a Reply” to something else like, “Help Improve This page” or “Suggest an Edit”. I am using the Vantage theme. I tried following this tutorial, but it must be for a different theme, because the options it list are not available. https://www.sertmedia.com/change-the-leave-a-reply-text/

Never mind. I did by using the custom plugin method.

So, which Text do you like.

“Suggest an Edit to this Page”

    or

    “Help Improve this Page”

or something else? I really want to encourage viewers to contribute their knowledge.

I’m glad you got it figured out!
This forum really isn’t for feedback, but I would suggest you make the text about the type of content you want, whether that is edits like typos or whole paragraphs of new content. Say what you mean; don’t make people guess.
