How to know what image?

How do i know what image will be used when someone shares a blog post? Some seem to pull from the actual blog post while I have others that seem to pull the default “no avatar face” even though there are images on the blog post I am attempting to share?!? I figured the system would pull the FEATURED IMAGE however that doesn’t seem to be the case. Help!
