How to limit storage space for uploaded media for users of front end site

However, I would also question whether it makes sense to take any plugin that ONLY realizes this wish while this is only a small component of your whole project. There are also (older) tips here on how to implement such a restriction yourself: https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/77072/how-can-i-manage-and-limit-disk-usage-for-each-author – perhaps this could be used together with a plugin you use for the frontend upload.

You could also look for a plugin for the frontend upload first and then ask their support if this would be possible. I found a current plugin for this here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/user-private-files/

Thanks for the suggestions but users on my site will upload for public display, not for private file sharing like a cloud storage site.

I found this free plugin, it seems it is not maintained anymore but it still works for me on WordPress 6.5.4:

You just have to grant users the ability to upload media using the Members plugin (or some other role permission editor plugin).
