• I can’t seem to work out how to link to the main archive page… all I can figure out is how to link to the archive for a specific month.

    Any help!?

  • I think you misunderstand what a WordPress ‘archive’ really is. It is not an archive in the traditional sense of a separate group of items. It is only a listing of posts that are related in some way – by post date, or category, or tag, or ….

So, there is not really a ‘main archive page’. A post can be in many ‘archives’: one by date, several by different categories, etc.

You can create a page and use a template to list whatever collection of posts you want on that page.

It is possible to create a page-template to display your archives in particular ways, and many themes include this option.

This is an old article (WordPress version 1.5) but it should give you the idea.

here’s an example of my archive page. I sort posts in a variety of ways.

This was very simple really. I did it in about an hour. Just made a special page template for the archive page (wide content, no sidebar)

Then just googling ‘wordpress archive page’ gave me many tutorials, which I combined to come up with my page
