how to make comments show automatically

In your admin panel, Settings -> Discussion

There you could manipulate your comments’ predefined behavior.

You mean you want your comments to appear under each post on the page? Are you sure you want to do that? It could get long and messy.

I checked in the discussion settings, was there a particular setting that allows the comments to be shown?

You’d have to edit your theme, wouldn’t you, to make the index page show comments like that…
