How to make the forums a better and more useful place.

Every single answer provided here is written by someone who is not paid to answer you.
Do not demand an answer, ask for one.
And please use some manners – words like “please” and “thank you” go further than you might think.

Please …….. put questions there, put answers there, put both there if you have both – if you think that a question can be asked in several different ways, then please make the changes.
Ok, sorry doesn’t was my intention, please erase my post.
I would also like to extend my thanks–I hardly ever post because my anwers are almost always in the forum.
I wanted to add that I think sometimes there isn’t a response because the same question has been answered a million times already. So sometimes a lack of response means you should spend more time searching the forums. That happened to me with one of my first posts and at first I was frustrated, but I kept searching and eventually figured it out–a good lesson as I learned a lot along the way.
Anyway, long and short of it is, you guys are awesome. I’ve stuck with WP partly for the amazing support community (and partly because WP is just awesome). Thank you so much.i added this “blank” post by mistake and there is no way to delete it so i am just adding this text to it. sorry everybody.
I’ll throw my two cents in too. Sometimes, you may not get an outright answer or solution to your problem, but by reading the various threads (arrived at by using the search box to find like topics) you may be pointed in a direction which may inadvertently lead to a solution to your problem. That’s happened to me a few times.
I may post a problem and not see an answer, but I may see other people querying me further, and putting out suggestions, which leads me to THINK (I know, it’s hard the first time!) and eventually I have (on one or two occasions) solved it myself this way.
ALWAYS go back to your original thread and post the solution, even if you found it elsewhere. It’s a great way to give back to the community and help some other lost soul who may find themselves in your same predicament.
And one thing I learned a long time ago hanging around in newsgroups, especially technical newsgroups where people are likely to post desperate “Help Me!!!!!” type questions:
As here, they are all volunteers, with lives to live. And sometimes, maybe they just don’t feel like posting the answer. You know? It’s not set in stone and there’s no written, money-back guarantee. People give what they can when they can. That being said, this is one of the best places on earth to come for help, not only with WordPress itself, but with other things connected with running a site, HTML, CSS, PHP, etc.
I blame the infamous (notorious?!) Root for poking a stick into my cage and getting me to abandon a table-based layout in favor of something easier to maintain and easier on the browser.
By lurking here on these forums, and especially by jumping in with both feet (just don’t land on any toes!), you just may learn a thing or two!!
Have a wonderful day everyone. And if I never said it before, THANKS MUCH to everyone who’se helped me, inspired me, prodded me into action or just lent an online “ear” to my blatherings!
With the loads of new folks coming to the forum daily it is worth reminding everyone that you can use Google to search the forum. Not many people know that. ??
@joni: and what a struggle it was ??
Too bad stickies don’t also stay at the top of the front page. It seems that we have forgotten a few common sense rules. This is in response to a thread I just came across and it seems to bear repeating, _AGAIN_.
You know, there’s nothing worse that people who post a problem, then reply back with, “nevermind, got it working now”…. and then don’t POST WHAT THEY DID! Now, in a week or so, some other poor person is going to have the same problem, search the forums, come here and find….. NOTHING! Geez people get with it. If you fix it on your own, please have the decency to post the solution you used. It’ll help those of us trying to help others, we’d be able to say, “Hey I saw a post where…..” and point them in the right direction. It’s info that could be added to the CODEX, it’s something that will show up in the search. It’s no freaking wonder no one uses the search any more, it’s full of crap threads like this. No resolution or anything. Gah! It’s enough to drive a gnome to drink.

The soap box is now available for the next person.
It REALLY annoys me off when people are posting here with no manners.
Can those people NOT READ ?
We are not paid to answer you.
You have NO right to expect an answer. And from now, if I see blatant bumping I am going to seriously consider deleting the post and pointing the author here. This post ( https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic.php?id=29174 ) is beyond belief.
I love this board. I am learning so much. Thank you for all of your help!
Quick note: Bumping is actually counter-productive if there have been no replies. The titles of posts with no replies are in bold which helps them stand out. Bumping a post will remove this emphasis and make it that much less likely to receive a reply.
I think that a request for professional assistance needs a bit more time for guys to
contemplate. Plus any sense of over urgency makes the pros think the guy is at panic stations ??I think the one thing that can’t be repeated often enough (besides simple politeness!) is to use search. The last several problems I got myself into, I also got myself out of – by using the search function.
Would be nice if one could have more than the five or so, but using google does work fairly well too.
If there was a link that would display all posts that have 0 replies on it, would any one use it? I know I would, but I don’t want to make the request unless others think there’s value in it as well. If 4 of 5 others besides — oh, heck…. I’ll make the request any way.

TechGnome – I like your idea. That way, even if a post with no reply gets buried, that’s still a quick way to check for them without having to: a) drill down the pages, and b) to rely on the “freshness” date/time.
Matt is currently in Italy, I think, so we aren’t likely to see many changes in the very near future! ??
