• Hi
    Using wordpress 2.51
I want the front page of my wordpress to be static, and to set another page to get the posts.
Under reading settings, I can’t choose my front page from the static-page list, therefor I can’t make it static.

Any idea how to do this please?

  • if you create a static page and name it home.php that will upload it into your theme and it will be your landing page
from it you can link to the rest of the blog hope this makes sense?
what i do is that i copy a theme in to a new folder that i name something like mytheme and then i play around with the pages and css so the i copy for example index.php and change what i want to change from it and save it as home.php for examply you may want to still have sidebars etc
and as long as you play around in a copy you are safe and can allways go back to default templet or what you had before.

I am pretty new to this my self but i made a cpl of sites with static homepages/landingpages you can also make diffrent templets for diffrent pages within your blog thats pretty nice too.

Here is a short video on how to do this: How To Make WordPress Look Like A Website.
This is the easiest way to do it unless I’m mis-understanding your question.
