Hello, the theme is beautiful, and works very smoothly, but I can’t make it display my galleries in tiled layout. Instead, it uses the options I select when I make the gallery in the CMS: say, 3 columns, or 4 columns, or however many. (I have to select a number, there is no ‘blank’ option. If I then erase the column number code, the display remembers it.) And the thumbnails remain very small.

What does the gallery script need to work properly? Does it rely on any particular plugins and/or parameters?

I have downloaded Jetpack for WordPress.com – and the image carousel now shows, but not the nice tiled layout.

This is the sort of layout I get instead: https://urban.guerrillasemiotics.com/type/gallery/

    Thank you very much.

The theme requires two features in Jetpack for WordPress.com enabled for the galleries to work. One is Carousel, and the other is Tiled Galleries. It’s quite simple, of course, but can take a long time to figure out if you don’t know what to look for.
