How to make the submenu prominent

  • I want to add a submenu of categories to a page, but I need to make the submenu prominent when the user click on it, it would stay put. Right now it is possible to see the submenu only when hovering on it.

    To make it more clear: my main menu is Home | About | Portfolio | News | Contact.
    Portfolio is a page but has a submenu: and they are for instance, Residential | Commertial | Retail. Each of these are categories and have posts.
    News page also has posts under News category.
    Now, when the user clicks on Portfolio to go to see Residential, I want the submenu stays put on top of the page, so he can easily choose another category (for example Commercial), without having to hover on portfolio to reveal the submenu.

    Does anybody know how to do this or is it impossible, please.
