I need instructions on how to change my newly-installed WordPress visible on my lunarpages site instead of my existing (not WordPress) static splash page. The only thing visible on my current site is a splash page with my contact info on it. The splash page was created and uploaded by someone else who is no longer available to answer questions.

I’m now ready to do more with my site. I’ve uploaded WordPress to my host, and installed it. Both the upload and installation appeared to be successful. (I used Fantastico for the upload. I have the newest version of WP.) Unfortunately, my old splash page still is the only thing showing up. I can log into WP on my site, but don’t know how to make the WP page appear.

I’m an extreme novice, and I have searched to try and find an answer, but I’m obviously not using the right search parameters because I haven’t found anything addressing my issue. Any assistance will be gratefully accepted.

  • did you install WP to a folder like /blog, or just to root?

you probably just need to delete the splash page (or rename it if you don’t want to delete)

its probably called index.html (don’t delete index.php, thats a WP file)

It installed in the public_html directory. I’d already tried renaming the index files, but the old splash page still showed up. Any other suggestions?

don’t rename all the index files….WP needs index.php to function

Basically you need to know what file is generating the splash page and get rid of it.

do you have an .htaccess file in public_html telling browsers to opena certain page?

<i>do you have an .htaccess file in public_html telling browsers to opena certain page? </i>

Nope. I’m completely baffled by this. I don’t have a clue as to what else to try. I’d actually asked lunarpages if they could reset my site back to the original default, as it was when they first created my account, but they don’t do that. They did suggest that I delete all but the default files, which I did, and then reinstalled WordPress with Fantastico’s automated installation, before I posted here asking for help.

(FYI, I *had* renamed the index.php file, but have renamed it back to index.php.)

Can you post a link to your site?

As RVoodoo said, you need to find out which file is your splash page and rename it.

I re-re-re-re-deleted and re-re-re-re-installed WordPress again AND re-re-re-re-cleared out my cache, and finally everything’s working as it should.

    Thanks for your assistance
