    Hi, trying to make WordPress with Cyrillic content, but i don’t want the cyrillic URL-s. How can i stop the automatic use of cyrillic letters in the url slug, and make it english only url.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

    Does this plugin can help you ? https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/cyr2lat/

    You can set the slug manually for any post, and only use Latin characters there.

    Thank you @otto42 , but this would be an woocommerce shop with over 5.000 products, it is almost impossible to change all of them manually. Can this be done without plugin?

    Thank you @sebastienserre , if there is no way to do it without plugin i will try to use your suggestion.

    Well, they all have to be set manually anyway, because they have to be set to different slugs. If you don’t set them manually, then where do the characters that the slug is made out of come from?

    @otto42 the names of the products are exported from accounting database as a CVS, where they are in cyrillic, (together with stock, product info, attributes… ) and then the CVS is imported to woocommerce. In the CVS file product name and titles are in cyrillic and i would like to have them like that on the website, but i need the slugs to be in latin (english) characters, because cyrilic urls are not really useful for humans / users.

    Thank you.

    Right, but where do the Latin characters come from? Does your database contain those characters, those slugs, already? What is the source of these Latin slugs?

    @otto42 no, it does not contain Latin characters, and I’m looking for a way how to get them and make WordPress use Latin characters for the url slugs, to transliterate Cyrillic titles to Latin slugs.

    Changing the slug is fairly trivial. But the question is, how do you know what to change it to?

    Where will this new slug come from? If it’s programmatic in nature, then you simply generate the new slug for all the pages and change the slug in the database. Basically, you just have to tell WordPress what the slug is. It doesn’t care what character set it is in.

    @otto42 ok, thank you.
