Hello, I’ve been tasked with updating a Woocommerce store on WordPress which is several versions outdated.

I would like to manually update through the versions to get to a more up-to-date version that is compatible with the sites plugins.

This page is all I can find in the documentation with regards to updating but it has no information on how to do this manually https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/how-to-update-woocommerce/

The installation guide here and in the readme doc only says “Automatic updates should work smoothly, but we still recommend you back up your site.”

I have downloaded the Zip of the next version to update but don’t know how best to proceed or what files should be uploaded and which shouldn’t. Is there a better guide to updating somewhere that I can’t find?

    Thank you.

    Hi @chrisdoth,

Since you’ll want to move procedurally along previous versions while testing for compatibility, which to you are newer versions, I would recommend following this guide.

**I should mention that since you’ll be working up older versions, you should be fine working from Step #3 on the guide since from your side, you will be *upgrading*.

    Note:
    1. You will find the other versions of WooCommerce here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/woocommerce/advanced/
    2. You can download and install the zip through Plugins → Add New
    3. When you update the plugin, it’s a good idea to update the WooCommerce database as well.
    4. Be sure to keep backups of your site throughout the process. You can use UpdraftPlus for backups.

    Thanks.

Hello, thank you for the quick response.

*I think* I follow that. So its a matter of deleting the current plug-in and reinstalling the newer version, meanwhile all the database and settings should remain.

Thank you for this. I will proceed with caution.

    Thanks for getting back.

Just to make sure we’re on the right track, since you’re not downgrading, you can just straight away upload the newer versions of the plugin via Plugins → Add New *without deleting the existing one*.
From there, you can upgrade the database as you’ll be prompted by the plugin. It will be much less tasking this way.

    Many thanks.

Thank you again for clarifying that.

    You’re welcome!

Just one correction here, it’s supposed to be *after deleting the existing one* not *without*.

Hope that all goes well with your tests, let us know if you need anything.

    Thanks.
