Is there a way to migrate the wiki to another website – just the wiki, nothing else?
My problem is: The wiki pages contains > 10.000 pictures (historical document scans) and it’s now running out of space. So I want to migrate to a bigger webspace. The idea is to copy all the document uploads via ftp, so I just have to copy the wiki pages to the other site and correct the domain name of all links.

    Any idea?

    Hi ruewa,

This is a WordPress thing not specific to Yada Wiki. I’ve only migrated entire sites before, so cannot suggest a step by step process. I tried searching online for a guide that fit this situation and didn’t find one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one exists. The common advice to have good backups seems like an important first step.

It is possible that you could FTP the images, then use the regular WordPress Export / Import tools and select Yada Wiki as the content you want to export on the old site and import on the new site, and then update the URL in the database. If you can reset the new site in the event it doesn’t work then that might be worth a try. I’m sorry that I don’t have time today to runs tests to try it. If you do find a good process please share it here as it might be helpful for someone else.

    Best regards,

    Hi David,

i got it, thanks to your hint with export/import. I didn’t see that “wiki pages” are an export category of its own (well done!). So here’s the HowTo:

    1) Dashboard/tools/export the wiki pages and import them to the new site.

    2) Copy all (relevant) media files including the scaled picture files to the new site via ftp.

    3) Synchronize the new media files to the database – i used the plugin “Media Sync”.

    4) In the hosting interface open the database (with phpMyAdmin in my case), select the posts table and replace the old domain name by the new domain name in the column post_content.

    5) Myteriously some formatting information got lost in der wiki pages on the new site. Especially the alignment of the pictures was resetted to alignnone. In my case there are lots of wiki pages with attached document scans, originally placed side by side. Now they were one below the other. So i also replaced “<img class=”alignnone” by “<img class=”alignleft”. This caused some formatting flaws of its own on some pages, but significantly less than before. So some manual work is left, but that’s okay.

Thanks for putting me on track!

    Best regards,
