How to modify Recent Posts to ignore year?

I would like to have the recent posts widget only look for which posts of a category bear the month and day of the current day, but ignore the year.

So if it’s July 15th, I’d like the recent posts to show the posts from the selected category from the 14th, 13th, etc. regardless of the year.

Does that make sense?
