• I am published a few post with my new blog with WordPress 3.0. So far things work fine, but I have a few questions about my sidebar.

First, my blog looks like this
    https://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj258/MichiganDave1234/2010/misc/wp_blog.jpg

You can see on the right I have “Introduction,” “pages, “tags,” calendar, etc.

My question is how can I move things around the sidebar, or how can I remove some items? For example, I don’t want to show tags or calendar as it is not that useful for my blog.

If I go to Appearances|Widgets, I see this:
    https://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj258/MichiganDave1234/2010/misc/wp_widgets.jpg

I can see the sidebars but they are empty. How can I edit the content? I have seen in some themes (I believe Twenty Ten is one of them) you can drag and drop items as described in the codex. But for this theme (Daleri Sweet 1.2) I cannot. Why not?

Is the drag-and-drop something new in 3.0 and this theme might be using older version?

A related but non-technical question is why would one show tags? I have seen others’ blogs with tags (with big words) like that too. To me the tags look ugly and I don’t know what it is for. Internally I can see that maybe it is good for search engine, but why would one show it on the blog?

Thanks in advance for any reply / suggestion!

  • It appears that these widgets are hardcoded in your sidebar.php. Just open the file and delete the corresponding code. Then you’ll be able to use widgets dynamically without redundancy.

    Quoting from the WordPress Codex:

Categories can be hierarchical in nature, where one category acts as a parent to several child, or grandchild, categories. Thoughtful categorization allows posts of similar content to be grouped, thereby aiding viewers in the navigation, and use of a site. In addition to categories, terms or keywords called tags can be assigned to each post. Tags act as another navigation tool, but are not hierarchical in nature. Both categories and tags part of a system called taxonomies.

Hey Blogger Dave, where you ever able to fix your problem (remove the widgets)?

I’m having exactly the same issue.

I did try editing the sidebar.php file, but I screwed things up a bit when I did that. I’m not sure what to do to remove these widgets, but I do like the Daleri Sweet theme a lot.
