  • in Autoptimize go to the Extra tab and tick the “combine and link deferred in head (fonts load late, but are not render-blocking), includes display:swap.” option (or “remove google fonts”, my favorite) ??

    Thank you. Yes, I have tried both “combine and link deferred in head (fonts load late, but are not render-blocking), includes display:swap.” option and “remove google fonts.” Neither seem to have any effect.

    So what setting is active now?

    Active now: “combine and link deferred in head (fonts load late, but are not render-blocking), includes display:swap

    hmm .. might be related to W3TC; did you clear the W3TC page cache? does the problem persist if W3TC is (temporarily) off?

    Thank you! Clearing the cache seemed to help. According to page speed insights, render blocking from google fonts is no longer an issue on mobile. It still shows as an issue on desktop, but effect seems to be small.

    they’re indeed now loaded in a non-render-blocking manner all right;

    <link rel="stylesheet" media="print" onload="this.onload=null;this.media='all';" id="ao_optimized_gfonts" href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Sen:regular,700,300,600%7CZilla%20Slab:regular,700,300&display=swap">

    no idea why they would still be listed as blocking on dekstop I’m afraid.
