    I have my own blog with WordPress and I like to preview my wedding pictures like for instace Style Me Pretty does here, with the various photos in portrait format side by side, but I can’t figure out how to!

    Until now I’ve done this in Photoshop and uploaded two photos as one file, as you can see an example of here, but I’d love to know if you have a plugin or any tips to how you place your photos side by side so perfectly in every post?

    I know I can do it with HTML but that’s not an option, so my question is – do you know of a plugin that will help me with this? Do you know what SMP does here to make the blogpost so neat? I can’t imagine they do it in Photoshop every time?

    Thanks so much!

  • Try putting the the photos into a gallery. See this Codex article for instructions: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/The_WordPress_Gallery

    Another option would be to use a table to contain the photos. The TinyMCE Advanced plugin will add several buttons to the editor, including one for managing tables. You could put each photo in a cell in a table to get them to align side by side.

    Thanks for this reply. The gallery option isn’t really what I’m looking for. I want to present my images “magazine style” like on for instance SMP/stylemepretty.com, and decide and drag/drop a spesific order for my photos in the editor. I was hoping for a simpler solution, like a plugin or something that didn’t need special care (and that my clients can manage as well). But the table option I might just give a go for my own site at least. Thanks again.

    Have you tried using the genesis advanced columns plugin?

    you can place the images into these columns, it worked a treat for me. It is worth looking at the HTML option though.

    anyway here’s the genesis plugin

    Hey byingeborg,

    Besides the suggestions that have been made, if you’re looking to follow what StyleMePretty does with their galleries, you can use the Tiled Galleries feature in the Jetpack plugin for WordPress.

    Here’s a quick rundown of the Tiled Galleries feature in Jetpack:
    https://jetpack.me/support/tiled-galleries/

    There are also other plugins that can do it. Just search for Tiled Galleries, as that is the feature you are looking for.

    Just hit reply if you need more help.

    Thanks, both of you! maxinehowarth + wanderingbedou.

    The Tiled Galleries suggestion almost works as I want it to. It’s a little hassle since I need to make a single gallery for each two “side by side” images, but at least I’m able to edit the images to go side by side in the editor, which is what I was looking to do.

    However, I can’t figure out why the margins on top/bottom of the inserted gallery are different for each gallery (the space between the images above and below the columned/tiled images), and they are a little too big. Have a look: https://byingeborg.no/tiled-gallery-test/

    Any suggestions here? Should I go inside the code to alter the margins? Seems a little strange though, that the margins are different from the inserted galleries. Note that each “side by side” image is a separate gallery, and the other landscape image is just regularly inserted media.

    Ok, I think I solved it now by this method:

    • Adding also the singular images (horizontal) as separate galleries
    • Never pressing “Return” while editing, and ignore how the gallery looks in the editor (the images are really weird, some small in size, some large).
    • Adding this to custom CSS in the theme: .tiled-gallery {
      margin-top:-15px!important;
      }
    • Voilá

    Hey byingeborg,

    Well, that’s certainly one way to make it work ??

    I was just going to mention that the “break” between galleries was showing up because of a “new paragraph” being entered in the post when you hit the Return key.

    Unfortunately, the plugin is designed to automatically layout galleries, so needing that editorial control does make it a bit tedious.

    Hopefully your solution works out well. Please mark this questions as “Resolved” if you’re satisfied.

    Best regards
