How to popular posts with actual code rather than widget

Hi,

I was wondering am I able to display popular posts within a timeframe such as 1 week or 1 month with out using the built in widget but rather query it in my sidebar. I don’t use widgets in my theme and code everything into my sidebar and couldn’t find the documentation no how sort popular posts without using short code or widget. Thanks
