How to programmatically add photos to a gallery?

    How can images be programmatically added to a gallery? (is there a documented API?)

    Ive been picking through
    /plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules to find ideas.

    I have been able to partially add a new image record to a gallery, but I can only get an image to upload to Media, and not the gallery.

    At this point I’m just taking wild shots in the dark.

    Are there any examples available?
