Hi, I have just installed your plugin “Custom Sidebars”

But I can’t seem to get it working.
I have created a new custom sidebar called single post sidebar. I want it to just be on the single posts page. When I click sidebar location. It just says For all Single Entries matching selected criteria and for archives. but I am not sure what I should choose here. There is also one other widget area that was there with the theme, And this is showing up there, but not the new custom sidebar. I’m not sure if I am doing it correct. Are you please able to help me?
    Thank you

  • Hey there wearecrunch,

    Hope you’re well today ??

You can add sidebar to single post pages in two different ways:

    1. Target multiple posts. For that go to Appearance -> Widgets and for desired sidebar click on Sidebar Location. Once you do that you can either Posts as your post type (this will add sidebar to all Posts) or select category (posts in that category will display this sidebar on their single post pages), see screenshot https://screencast.com/t/NZRWMKNm.

    2. Adding sidebar to specific post is done in Posts -> Edit/Add new, please see screenshot https://screencast.com/t/xG2pX58DL3Y.

Any of the above two requires your single post pages to have sidebar in the theme’s template for single post pages that you can choose to be replaced in Appearance -> Widgets https://screencast.com/t/d2L3JFn7Zc as Custom Sidebars can only replace already existing sidebars and can’t add new ones if that makes sense.

    Hope this helps ??

    Cheers,
    Bojan

Oh ok thank you very much.

There aren’t already sidebars on the single post pages unfortunately ??

Do you also have a plugin that can create a sidebar widget for the single post page.

    Thank you

    Hey again,

Do you also have a plugin that can create a sidebar widget for the single post page.

Unfortunately no, sidebar needs to be registered within the theme template file for single posts, I’d suggest contacting theme developers with this as I’m pretty sure they already had these requests if their theme doesn’t have sidebar on single post pages.

    Best regards,
    Bojan

This can be achieved simply using <?php get_sidebar> or you can check the entire tutorial here.
