    Im trying to understand the best way to give a customer a refund once his invoice has been completed.

    Can I create a credit / refund invoice and if so what is the best way

    Do I need a plug in?

    Hello further to this and to clarify.

    I can refund as the woo-commerce method implies, if the invoice has not yet been created, after that the invoice is set in stone and the invoice cannot be changed.

    So if a customer then changes his mind and wants one less item. How do I create an invoice for him just to transact the refund / in effect a credit to his previous card payment.

    If you manually process a refund and then resend an invoice post-refund, the new invoice states the correct totals: https://d.pr/i/TTmRcP

    I think I understand. Not sure.

    I know how to make a refund in its own credit invoice. a customer sends a product back and we send a refund invoice. One product and one invoice

    If I am making a sales invoice with 10 items, can I add a refund for another previously supplied product on this invoice? It appears that I cannot. In other words add a negative sale. In this way a net amount is created on one invoice.

    You would need to refund the applicable item within its own order, not just the most recent one. So no, you cannot refund an item an order that’s not actually included in that order.
