It’s not normally a good idea to go back in versions. The biggest reason for that is becuase you’re efectively removing all of the security patches and enhancements that were fixed in the newer versions.

can I ask exactly why you want to rever to a previous version?

there is a plugin I want to use that is only guaranteed up to that version, it is the simplest and easiest for my purposes. I have tried to ask for help with it on here and by directly tweeting with the developer for a solution, but have gotten absolutely no response from either and I am tired and frustrated with all these others I have found that will work with the new version but as so complicated and three times more than my needs that I would rather just reinstall the older version of word press and use the simpler one I found which is call Snappy List.

I can see yor other post in that forum. The developer should reply, but that doesn’t always mean that they will. Everything on here is voluntary, so there’s no guarantee that they will reply.

What exactly is the problem that you’re having with it? Just saying “not working” doesn’t give anyone much idea on what to do to help as we don’t know what the actual problem is. I haven’t used that plugin myself, but I’d give it a look if I know what I’m looking for.

It is there in my dashboard, I set it up exactly as described, it is showing up on the page, you can fill it out, but when you press the button to subscribe, nothing happens…in other words, it doesn’t work, can’t explain it any better than that

I created my list and named it. I put the short code in a sidebar widget on my blog page, then created the three others pages as instructed and placed their URL’s in the appropriate place in the plugin’s settings. Everything shows up as it should, but as I said when you fill out the form and press subscribe, nothing happens. I also tried placing the shortcode for the form on its own page, same results.

I’ve just installed that plugin on a dev site of mine thats running 4.4.2, and it’s working fine.

The biggest suggestion that I’d have at this point is that the plugin uses JavaScript to send an AJAX request to save the subscribers details, and there’s a chance that your theme or another plugin on your site is conflicting with that. It’s pretty much impossible to say what’s going on without actually seeing the site to see the results for ourselves.

the website address is pcelrod.com ….I have the form set up on the top of the right sidebar on the news page, as well as a stand alone page that can be accessed from the call to action bar on the front page…if you can help me figure this out I will be eternally grateful !!

    I was right. ??

You’re getting a JavaScript error from another plugin that’s blocking the Snappy List form from working. The error is in this file:

    https://www.pcelrod.com/website/wp-content/plugins/simple-registration-form/includes/font-script.js?ver=4.4.2

So, it looks like it’s the Simple Registration Form plugin that you’ve installed that’s causing the issue.

I am using the creativo theme and the only active plugins other than Snappy List are the following…AuthorSure, Jet Pack, Layer Slider WP, MOJO Marketplace, Slider Revolution, W3 Total Cache, and WPBakery Visual Composer. All plugins are updated…but I have been getting an error for a few days that I don’t understand for the W3 Total Cache that says ….”W3 Total Cache: Default settings are in use. The configuration file could not be read or doesn’t exist. Please save the settings to create the file.” Not sure what to do about it.

okay, I deleted that plugin and tried to use the snappy again, still not working

    catacaustic

    (@catacaustic)

    There’s more…

    <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="https://www.goodreads.com/author/author_widget/8189781.Philip_C_Elrod?widget_id=1452975640"></script>

That script is calling a HTML page instead of whatever JavaScript that you’re trying to get from it. From what I can see it’s meant to be a HTML page with (another…) sign up form. Why it’s been included on your site as a JavaScript file I don’t know.

You’ll need to sort out these JavaScript errors before anything of what you’re trying to do will work.

I have two goodreads widgets on the site, one on the footer of every page and one on the news page only in the right sidebar, are both of them messing with this, and what can I do about it? I don’t mind removing the one from the sidebar on the news page, but the one in the footer is important.

    catacaustic

    (@catacaustic)

From looking at where that file is coming from in the pages soruce code it looks like it’s the one in the footer.

As for what you can do about it, there’s two choices…

First, remove it. Not what you want, but will fix that issue and let you see if any more issues come up after that.

Second, contact who ever you got the widget code off and get them to fix it, then install the new code instead.

    Thread Starter LavenderRose

    (@lavenderrose)

okay, the one on the sidebar was the jetpack goodreads widget, I have removed it…the snippet of code you showed above was from the widget in the footer…I read through it the whole code for the widget and it looked like that snippet was at the end and not necessary for the widget to work, so I removed it, double checked and the widget is still working without it…BUT the snappy list is STILL not working !! LOL now what !!??

    (@catacaustic)

Now.. You will either need to start learning how to do some debugging for yourself, or you’ll have to hire someone to do it for you. There’s no other errors that I can see from here that would block that forms submission, and I’ve confirmed that it does work on the latest version of WordPress, so there’s *something* that’s still blocking it.

The normal way of findig out it to deactivate all (yes, all – escept the Snappy List one of course) plugins, and change to a default (Twenty*) theme and see if it works then. If it does, and it should, re-enable the plugins and the theme one-by-one until you find which one is causing the issue.
