Hi there. Any suggestions as to how to remove the “archives” wording from the browser tab of my Events page, please?

**EDITED TO ADD: I’ve found the information about the conflicts with Yoast SEO. I’m no longer using Yoast (deactivated and deleted), but the “Archives” wording remains visible in the browser tab.

  • Hi, beckiritson. That “Archives” feature in the sidebar is actually a widget. You can manage Widgets by going to Appearance -> Widgets in the back-end of your WP site.

Hi Mike. THanks for the response. I’m not talking about the archives widget (just checked my post to see if I had typed “sidebar” in error; I hadn’t). I’m talking about the way that the browser tab appears (at the top of the Chrome window). When I have either of the two SEO plugins that I mentioned, active, the browser tab displays “Archives|[my website title”, rather than “Events…”

Does that make it clearer? Is there any way that I can have the SEO plugins active and yet not have them mess up the browser tab? Or am I stuck with not being able to use an SEO plugin alongside The Events Calendar?

    Thanks!

Hello, again. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

When I visit the URL you shared above, the browser tab says “Events for October 2018 – Sunshine Stamping” (https://1drv.ms/u/s!AoLGEitzJnIshcgcyY_cYFFC_JrO9Q).

If you are still see the word “Archives” in the browser tab, you might try clearing your browser cache or viewing your site in a private or incognito window. It might simply be your browser caching it.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for responding (again!). I deactivated Yoast, and installed a different SEO plugin (The SEO Framework). When I deactivated that one, the word “Archives” disappeared, which is why you couldn’t see it when you looked. I would love to be able to use an SEO plugin, but the ones I’ve tried seem to cause chaos with The Events Calenday, sadly. Are there any SEO plugins that DON’T conflict with it, please?

    Hello ??

I’m the plugin author of The SEO Framework. I’ve recently discussed this topic in the link below, where I’ve provided an intermediate snippet to work around this issue:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/bug-in-archive-page-title-tag-rewriting/#post-10818272

To solve this within the Events Calendar plugin, it should use a more rudimentary hook, which all plugins can make use of via superficial methods:
    https://developer.www.ads-software.com/reference/functions/post_type_archive_title/

All SEO plugins should be able to work with this archive page after that’s implemented.

    Thanks for chiming in @cybr!

Does this answer your question, @beckiritson?

Thanks @cybr . I’ll have a look at your links.

@erishel : I’m not sure.. I’m not a developer or coder so I hope it’s not too technical! I’ll pop back in if I get stuck. Wish me luck…

Update: Well, I couldn’t make head or tail of those threads, I’m afraid, (I worked out that they were advocating adding some code to my website, but couldn’t work out where it needed to go). However, I did spot something in another post linked to them (another one of yours, @cybr , I think) that said it was possible to disable SEO for The Events Calendar in the SEO Framework settings. I did that, and my browser tab seems to be behaving itself now. Phew! Thank you.

    Good to hear, @beckiritson!

    Thanks for your help, @cybr!

@tribalmike could you forward my suggestion to the developers? This issue has been lingering for years now, and is affecting (almost) all SEO plugins ??

For me, using Yoast SEO, it was in the Search Appearance > Content Types settings. Scrolled down to the ‘Events (tribe_events)’ drop-down menu and removed the ‘Archives’ option from the SEO title. Clicked save and it was gone!

@vrweaver thank you!!! I have been searching for days without luck. Strange that it was actually an easy fix, yet so hard to get the info.
