How to remove flexslider section?

Would like to have Home page to NOT have the first flexslider entry, but just an entry like all the others. I’ve been able to hide the flexslider right-left arrows using CSS, but that doesn’t solve the problem of the entry a) thumbnail not being active, or hovering and b) going to the archive page where the image is showing twice, both full size and thumbnail. Would like to have the behavior be consistent for all the entries. Thanks!
