Hello and thanks so much to anyone who is willing to help put this baby to rest once and for all! There are a blue zillion posts about this very subject but absolutely none of them are step by step enough for a dumb novice like me to follow.

Apparently one must edit some of the css code. cool. I made a child theme, I’m ready.

Also it seems one must edit some of the header.php code. Very well, what code? Where? What line? Do I comment out code (delete code) or do I ADD code?

There is some kind of #branding code that must be added or deleted but in all the posts I’ve read, it is mentioned but it does not specifically say WHERE to add the code, or if one should find that code and delete it. Is this code found in header.php or is it found in the css? or perhaps some other place?

Can someone explain this, step by step? Start with one thing, explain that part all the way through, then move on to the next thing. I’ve read at least 15 of these wordpress forum requests and I’m still just as confused as when I started. THANKS IN ADVANCE to the dude or dudette that takes this on!!!

Wait it worked! I had forgotten to activate my child theme. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

OK to all the [ people who are struggling with child themes ], you do HAVE to follow all the rules and create a child theme step by step just like the link above, then follow what the link tells you to do. I have access to my cpanel so it was easy.

Then, when you are done, don’t forget to ACTIVATE the child theme from the themes in your dashboard. THANK YOU ANDREW!

Gotcha. Well It was sort of meant for ME. Because if I’d followed the advice of the ten billion other posts that says “here’s how you build a child theme” rather than just figure I knew it all, maybe this all could have been avoided. So I take it back ??
